Help Compostela & Davao Oriental

Thank you very much to all our DONORS. Without your generosity, this would not be possible.

On behalf of ONE LIFE and FALConn CaRes, we would like to thank the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco headed by SrAilyn Cayanan, FMA, and Bro. Neo Saicon, SJ, of Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan, for giving us the opportunity to be of service to our "kababayans" in Compostela Valley. May God continue to provide both of you and your staff the strength and wisdom to continue what He has bestowed upon you to accomplish. "NO ACT OF KINDNESS, NO MATTER HOW SMALL IS EVER WASTED."

Barbara Hernandez- Magtibay, FALConn Charity Director

SIMBAHANG-LONGKODSimbahang Lingkod Ng Bayan - On January 8-9, 2012, Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan, through Task Force Noah and in partnership with Ateneo de Davao University's Community Engagement and Advocacy Council, delivered a total of 1,000 relief packs to the Lumad, as well as non-Lumad families affected by Typhoon Pablo in Brgy. Casoon, Monkayo and Brgy. Tabunan, Montevista, both located in the province of Compostela Valley.

Monkayo and Montevista are just two of the municipalities in ComVal that are hardly hit by Typhoon Pablo last December. The municipality of Monkayo is around 145 km away from Davao City, passing through Tagum City and two other municipalities in ComVal. Montevista on the other hand is the municipality just before Monkayo.

Although relatively close to Davao City, through which most of the help passes, communities that are kilometers off the main road, such as Brgys. Casoon and Tabunan, are often not able to receive as much help as those who are living in more accessible areas. This is so for the Mandayas and D'babawons in these barangays who, at the same time do not find it in their culture as Lumads to proactively request for help from outsiders.

HELP MANILA FLOOD VICTIMS

manila flood-2-600x
August 9, 2012

Once again, the Philippines is being challenged by one of the worst disasters since "Ondoy" and "Sendong". Our loved ones, families and relatives, and most of our "kababayans" from the affected areas needs our help. FALConn CaRes USA/PHILS., with support from the FALConn Ladies, released an initial amount of $500.00 to start our disaster relief drive. We are again asking for your generous support. Any amount will do and will be greatly appreciated. For inquiries, please contact Waway Cabello (908-720-0813), Barbara Magtibay (914-806-7665), and Lani Roda (203)249-0348. Thank you so much and may God bless us all!

August 14, 2012

The amount of $500.00 (donated by FALConn) was already given to Don Bosco School Manila to assist on their relief operations, headed by Sr. Ailyn Cayanan, FMA. Below is part of Sr. Ailyn's message:

Goods are distributed per family and for the areas of relief distribution is per household. Contents of each packed goods: 1 kilo of rice, 2 noodles, 2 canned goods, 1 small size sachet of milk, 2 small size of sachet of coffee, biscuits and used clothes.

290 families - evacuees benefited from the 4 days meals and packed of relief goods from GMA7.

MANILA areas:
BARANGAY 597 - 100 goods
598 - 100 goods
599 - 150 goods
600 - 100 goods
601 - 300 goods
602 - 300 goods

BASECO, TONDO (3 barangays) - 300 goods, TATALON, ARANETA - 300 goods PASAY - 100 goods, TAYTAY, RIZAL - 500 goods (they are still flooded up until this time)

Our next destination is, QUEZON CITY (3 barangays have not been reached by any government or NGOs but they were very much affected) MARIKINA and BULACAN. There are lots of barangays that are still experiencing terrible flood.

Hope this data will help you in your report. God bless!

Remaining donations collected will be sent to ATENEO DREAM TEAM, headed by Ms. Grace Patricia G. Santos, University Bursar, Office of the VP for Finance & Treasurer, Ateneo De Manila University. These funds will be used for rehabilitation efforts of the affected areas where Ateneo has tie-ups.

Thank you!

DBS evacuation center is over but DBS is transformed to a relief center. Please send your donations for the poor families who were greatly affected by this bad weather.

Now roads are passable and so we can now start gathering your donations freely. The families are greatly in need of rice, canned goods, clothes, noodles, milk, coffee, etc. your generosity is highly needed by our people, please help us gather goods and let us help the poor.

FALConn’s  FIRST  :  A One Of  A Kind

Injury is so inevitable in any sports game. The Filipino-Amateur League in Connecticut (FALConn)  had a very minimal set of  first aid kit when they started the league three years ago usually manned by one or two people.

As the  league becomes popular and participants grew bigger,  FALConn felt  the urgent need to have  a permanent  group  who will respond effectively in cases of accidents.     With the appointment of Ariel Magtibay as chairman of the  First Aid Team,  in coordination with  the American Red Cross in Connecticut (Greenwich Chapter) ,    trainings  on  First Aid and   Adult and Pediatric   CPR/AED were conducted.   Equipped with the training and certification, the team is fully confident  to administer first aid  to any injured  person during games.   A couple of  injuries  already tested the team’s capability  to respond to  such incidents.  One head injury happened when Neria Baclayon, a registered nurse, was on duty as a first aid team member.

Before the initial  training in January this year,  Ariel  coined a name for  the group  from the word FIRST   which now stands  for      FALConn  Injury Response and Safety Team.  The group who has now a total of 30 members  from the FALConn membership  has  their own FIRST aid uniform  that they wear during games so people know whom to approach in case of emergency.   A maximum of  five  members including a team leader are  on duty  every game on a  rotation basis.  FIRST will always be present in all FALConn activities.

The training partnership with the Greenwich-based American Red Cross is continuous  for as long as there are interested members who want to be certified.   Knowledge of basic  CPR   is very useful in  our everyday lives.   Lota Yamashita, another FIRST  member attested to this when her employer  collapsed  in her presence.  Her quick response  to check on her condition  and  notifying the family was  a saving grace.

With  major  disasters  happening in other parts of  the country,   the  FIRST    voiced out a concern to  offer assistance  during these times.  The American Red Cross is willing to provide appropriate trainings to FALConn especially  the members of  FIRST   on how to help them in their national disaster operations.   It is a big step  for  such a small group   but a   noble service to the community and the country  consistent with the charity mission of FALConn. - by Lea Romana.
